Lake Powell Fish Report – September 10, 2013 Lake Elevation: 3589 Water Temperature 76-79 F By: Wayne Gustaveson #Lake Powell Fishing inSeptember is the first fall fish sampling period. Utah Wildlife’s first two electrofishing sample sites revealed some interesting details. The first sample was taken in Lone Rock Canyon near the back of Wahweap Bay. The first cove on the left heading up Lone Rock Canyon contained more shad than we could scoop up in our nets. That was a surprise. It was obvious that Read More +

Young stripers are most abundant near the second barricade from the west wall but they are also found in many places along that wall.  The yearling fish are apparently congregating near a large plankton school along the west wall.  But anglers have feed them some anchovies and they really like Read More +

Lake Powell Fish Report August 7, 2013 Lake Elevation: 3593 Water Temperature 77-81 F By: Wayne Gustaveson Lake surface temperature and lake level are declining.  Cool monsoon weather patterns are adding much needed rain water to the lake but not enough to keep the lake from declining one foot per week. Fishing success for stripers on anchovy bait and smallmouth on plastic bait is still exceptional. Adult stripers are holding at about 30 feet where cooler temperatures make life more pleasant for these hungry Read More +

Capt. Bill 6-23-13 Dear Anglers, Summer is hot and so is the “bite”!  New on the Fly fishing this past week in 78 degree water is producing fat stripers on the long range day trip.  The lower water run off has kept the bait fish to lightly stained to heavy from mid Lake to Bullfrog.  I am using “chartreuse clausers” and “Bill’s Rooster Wooster on a full sin tip powered by a 7-8 wt rods.  Chum was only need on a few schools plus top Read More +

Lake Powell Fish Report – June 26, 2013 Lake Elevation: 3600 Water Temperature 73-77 F By: Wayne Gustaveson Shad are taking a beating now as stripers have found the tiny hatchlings close to the surface. Unfortunately, surface feeding stripers are very easy to see but not as easy to catch.  In the southern lake striper slurps are common but very subtle.  Slurps are quick.  Stripers may get done feeding before the boat is in casting range.  If they come up a second time then a Read More +
