Lake Powell Fish Report – September 27, 2012 Lake Elevation: 3621 Water Temperature 73-77 F By: Wayne Gustaveson http://www.wayneswords.com Surface water temperature is now in a slow downward spiral. Nights are enjoyably cool with warm temperatures during the day. A weather front and temperature drop disrupted fishing success for a couple of days this week but it was mostly a readjustment in timing. Some areas that had enjoyed a good morning bite now had better fishing in the evening. Fishing is still good but it Read More +

Lake Powell Fish Report – September 21, 2012 Lake Elevation: 3622 Water Temperature 75-78 F By: Wayne Gustaveson  http://www.wayneswords.com Lake level decline has slowed and weather is similar to that imagined for a dream vacation to a tropical island.  It’s warm in the day time and delightfully cool at night with only a gentle breeze occasionally breaking up the flat calm reflecting pool of Lake Powell. Yes it’s really nice down here right now. Fishing patterns are essentially the same with some subtle differences Read More +

My Catch – 7 of the 15 and nothing under 5 lbs. The Juvenile stripers on top at Lake Powell.  Early morning and evenings .  The 5+ pounders are below 20-40′ and the bigger ones yet somewhere in the mix of the bigger fish.  Each day brings a different approach to things especially with water temps, cloud cover, wind and sun as everything effects the feeding pattern.  There has to be food for these elements to work where the anglers and fish become one.  For the latest video Read More +

Lake Powell Fishing Report August 5, 2012

Lake Powell Elevation:  3967.81 Water Temps:  85 The top water action is getting better and better daily and so is the chumming of anchovies.  This is going to be the best Fall Fishing in years for fish averaging 3-8 lbs. This is due to the increase in bait buildup over the last decade and the introduction gizzard shad.   Plus the opportunity for sume lunker encounters Lake Wide.  Best Canyon for fishing I recommend Last Chance and Navajo. My last trip this past week with 5 Read More +

Water Elevation:  3635.89 Water Temps:  80+   I have been fishing many early a.m. this past week.  I have been catching Walleye still which is a nice treat so late in the season.  Water tempseratures are 80+ by mid morning.  Expect a mix bag  of fish early hours trolling and drop shotting in 15-25′ of water on Lake Powell. Troll a deep shad diver at 20′ and a drop shot at submerged structures in same depth zone. Capt. Bill

Wayne’s Words Lake Powell Fishing Report 6-06-12

My weekly fishing trip was one day after a full moon and a big windstorm.  I wasn’t expecting much but was pleased to find cooperative smallmouth and striped bass. Stripers were feeding on plankton near the surface at the edge of the brush line.   They seemed to be slightly deeper than last week with most hits coming where bottom depth was 25-30 feet. Every time we trolled into shallower water, pesky smallmouth would whack our Lucky Craft Bevy Shad lures. In 2 hours of Read More +
