Capt. Bill 6-23-13 Dear Anglers, Summer is hot and so is the “bite”!  New on the Fly fishing this past week in 78 degree water is producing fat stripers on the long range day trip.  The lower water run off has kept the bait fish to lightly stained to heavy from mid Lake to Bullfrog.  I am using “chartreuse clausers” and “Bill’s Rooster Wooster on a full sin tip powered by a 7-8 wt rods.  Chum was only need on a few schools plus top Read More +

Fishing remains good this past weekend. Bigger stripers are on the feed and you can graph schools of bait fish close by when stripers are fat.  5-6 lb fish are the norm and fly fishing over chum is promising in the Main Channel on Lake Powell holding fish on points and shelves bordering deep water 300-400 ft. plus. Key to getting the bigger fish is to keep one line down below the feeding fish school for that possible “big strike for a 10lb plus”.    Wind will be Read More +

Fishing is excellent right especially Fly Fishing.  We are catching a lot of stripers with chartreuse clausers and Bill’s Secret “Fly”….stripers are an ample size.  Fishing anchovies is working extremely good now.  I typically fish away from other customers to get you on to bigger and fatter fish and away from the crowds. Come see us!   Capt. Bill

Lake Powell Fish Report – March 7, 2013 Lake Elevation: 3600 Water Temperature 46-52 F By: Wayne Gustaveson http://www.wayneswords.com Declining lake level will have a huge impact on spring fishing.  Current lake level is now at the projected low of 3600 and it will likely decline another foot before spring runoff reverses the lake level.  That is great news for boaters using the southern lake as it will allow the construction crew currently deepening the Castle Rock Cut to remove one more foot of soil Read More +

Fishing in Chains at Lake Powell Predicted to be ‘Best in a Decade’ Anglers probably won’t want to ‘hold the anchovies’ when casting from the Chains Recreation Area this spring, unless it’s just for a moment before tossing them in the water as chum.  Utah Division of Wildlife biologist and Lake Powell fishing expert Wayne Gustaveson is predicting the most stellar fishing in the Chains Area near Glen Canyon Dam and Wahweap in over a decade.  Gustaveson says Lake Powell’s relatively low level means formerly Read More +

Lake Powell Fish Report – September 27, 2012 Lake Elevation: 3621 Water Temperature 73-77 F By: Wayne Gustaveson http://www.wayneswords.com Surface water temperature is now in a slow downward spiral. Nights are enjoyably cool with warm temperatures during the day. A weather front and temperature drop disrupted fishing success for a couple of days this week but it was mostly a readjustment in timing. Some areas that had enjoyed a good morning bite now had better fishing in the evening. Fishing is still good but it Read More +

Fish early with heat for top water action in Southern Point of Lake for “boils”.  Then graph for baite and jigging.  Stripers are boiling big this time of the year. Check out our past gallery http://www.ambassadorguides.com/gallery/photo-gallery/ Capt. Bill

Lake Powell Fishing Report 5-15-12

Photo:  Ryan Mosley and Lowell Marthe, Dutch John UT, caught a mixed bag of species while fishing Lake Powell.  Here they hold stripers and walleye but they also caught crappie and smallmouth in abundance. It has been that kind of year at the lake and fishing continues to be excellent for all species.  In addition, striper fishing has just improved dramatically this past week.   Lake Powell Fish Report – May 15, 2012 Lake Elevation: 3636 Water Temperature 65-72 F By: Wayne Gustaveson   Forgive Read More +
