Lake Powell Fishing Report by Capt. Bill McBurney May 2024

Spring Fishing at Lake Powell

Here is Bill’s first client for the  season after my knee surgery this December  and as you can see?  The Action is definitely on!

First trip of the Season 2024 – Nice catch for our Guest

Lake Powell Elevation:  3559.19
Water Temp:  60 in the Channel and 65 degrees in the back of canyons.

.
Dear Anglers,

Spring Actions is here especially for smallmouth trolling and casting tubes.  Stripers are starting to stage on their ambush points for all types of fishing be it trolling, casting and fly fishing too for the somewhat experienced fly rodders.   Bait fishing – there are no reports as of yet and somewhat like the last 2 years!

More Guests with some great catches

I expect the dam area to start soon on anchovies and a few key spots like MM3 Antelope Point fish dock, Navajo Canyon Island Point and where you notice boats hanging for hours.  Good place to locate maybe on another day so as not to disturb other anglers enjoyment and cost to feeding the school.  If you are invited into the party?  Better yet!.

Bill  has trimmed back to the number of anglers he can manage comfortably and recommend for larger groups than 3, you call the Page Lake Powell HUB Visitor Center or myself for a recommendation.  He can also arrange another guide to take the overflow if needed.   The Visitor Center number is 928-608-5749 and my wife Judy is the Executive Director for the Center.  Bill networks with the best customer service guides we have to offer on Lake Powell

If fishing with Bill and RV’ing? your closer if camping at Antelope Point Marina RV Park:  928-645-5900 as we are launching again this year from there.  Antelope Point Marina is a full service operation with valet service to and from the boats and a floating restaurant on the Colorado River at Lake Powell.  Capt. Bill says “the lunch specials are excellent for you to enjoy after a 1/2 day fishing with 4-6 hour charters”.

We had 20’ saved this year from the run off last year and a 40’ projected to come.  Lake Powell Fishing i producing bigger fish due to the increase of shad and other baits as well.

If fishing with Ambassador Guides or not, feel welcome to call for ANY information we can help you with and your visit to Lake Powell.

Tight Lines and Great to be back on the pond!

Capt Bill & 1st Mate Judy
