Fall Fishing Outlook — Captain Bill’s Update
Fall fishing should be excellent this year!
We’re now booking trips all the way through January 1, 2026, thanks to continued lower runoff levels. The algae bloom and expected water temps are all tracking back to the lower pool levels we saw three years ago—setting us up for some of the best late-season fishing in recent memory.
Each canyon bay will fish differently—some good, some fair, some tough—depending on water temps, sun exposure, and wind direction. These factors make or break the bite, so staying flexible is key.

What about the algae?
If that blue-green algae is still lingering in September, it’s okay. It’s not the harmful “golden algae”, so it won’t ruin the fishing. We’ll just fish around it.

Fall Strategy
We’ll be fishing early mornings all fall until water temps settle into the 70s. We don’t bait fish over dormant schools. Instead, we target active fish that are chasing or hunting, especially near the surface. Right now, the key forage species are threadfin shad and juvenile gizzard shad—and that’s what the bigger fish are after.

Bill’s Best Tip:
Valet launch from Antelope Point Marina to save fuel and maximize fishing time. You’ll avoid the long haul from State Line and skip 2 extra “no wake” zones—that’s over 16 miles of wasted time you could be spending on the water.
