Lake Powell Fishing Report April 28, 2019 by Capt. Bill

Fish are biting extremely well and all “species” and all methods of fishing including fly fishing. Water temps are ideal with low-mid 60’s.   If you are planning a trip, book soon even into Fall as we are booking out fast this year with our regular fishing trips and our Lake Powell Experience trip (half fishing – half sight seeing). For those who want the best of both worlds. Castle Rock cut is still not open but with the warmer temps we should start to Read More +

Lake Powell Fishing April 20, 2019

So !   Bait fishBait fishing is excellent right now and Florida style Fly Fishing for stripers “chumming them up from the deep” is also great right now.   Low water now mean I have 1 hour each way to go to fish Navajo Canyon so fish cleaning is up to the customer on 1/2 day trips. Full day trip there is more time in the 8 hour window to prepare your catch.   When bringing your boat, be sure to let your guide know Read More +

Spring Fishing Lake Powell 2019

Fishing Thoughts~Spring Lake Powell by Capt. Bill Every beginning starts about the same at Lake Powell but there are variables. This year we have a huge carry over of 2 dominate bait fish being thread fin and gizzard shad. The north end will produce more threadfin and the south more gizzard and some threadfin. How do you like to catch them? If fly fishing May & June in the back of canyons I recommend in the the south half and sometimes in early July for Read More +

Lake Powell Spring Fishing Report March 28, 2019

It’s looking like the striper bait bite will be better than last year as schools are setting up early in the main channel.  Some schools will be a better quality than other schools as far as size, fight and edibility goes.  For me, I prefer to troll when looking for a quality stripers.  Having allot of anglers on Lake Powell early helps to thin out the skinny ones too end by June.  This means bigger and fatter fish in deeper water are the target on Read More +

Spring Run off at Lake Powell 2019

The Colorado, Wyoming and Utah snow pack will make Lake Powell boating & fishing trip longer until the run off is complete around the 2nd or 3rd week of June. Castle Rock Cut will be closed until then with no water.   Until runoff is completed, access to certain area are limited and your guide will discuss what options he recommends for your fishing charter.  Be prepared to venture through the main channel to get to key areas until then. Lake Powell Updates for Boat Owners 2019 from Ambassador Guides & Outfitters

FROM BOAT U.S. MAGAZINE URGENT Our current administration has moved to allow E15 Ethanol gasoline sales year round.  This puts 140 plus million boaters at risk because E15 is prohibited for use in recreational boats. Using E15 voids all warranties!  Advice is to “tweet” and “complain” right now to your Congressmen and Congresswoman in your district right now as most boat owners refuel at roadside gas stations knowing that marine fuel costs are “EXCESSIVE”. Please visit:  www.advocacy.boatus.com. for the web link (located in “Ethanol Read More +

Lake Powell Fishing Report January 20, 2019 from Capt. Bill

Happy New Years, I ventured out on the Pond yesterday to check out some motor work and scope some fish.  Water temps are at 44 degrees and most stripers were 50-75 ft. down and tight lipped with trolling.  I didn’t try any jigging,  but plan to after the next cold front.  Castle Rock Cut channel which saves boaters 24 miles to head up lake is now dry and will not have water till June when the run off from Colorado start to break loose.  So Read More +
