Lake Powell – “The Lake”
Lake Powell should be designated as the 9th wonder of the world. It is that magnificent in it’s grandeur and with 2000 miles of shoreline and over 80 side canyons and a 1,000 canyons off them all anyone can say is “to fish Lake Powell you are taking a journey back in time”. Lake Powell will fish 365 days a year. I find that all the months have something different to offer and allows this Lake to be enjoyed to the maximum.
Types of Fishing

- Our specialities are fly fishing for stripers and smallmouth
- Site fishing bass with spin or baite cast
- Trolling methods for all species
Our Species

Our primary target fish are stripers, small and large mouth bass, walleye and crappie. The stripers are an “excellent” fighter and are equally excellent table fare. Average stripers can be anywhere from 1-10 lbs on striped bass but many stripers are caught in the 15+lb range trolling
Smallmouth will average ½ lb up to 3 lbs with primetime with larger fish in the months of March, April, May, September & October. Walleye are not a specific target fish for us but we typically catch them while fishing smallmouth but target them in the month April & May. Crappie are early Spring target fish and the dead of Winter. Stripers and smallmouth are year round. We drop shot for smallmouth in 20-30’ of water in the Winter and we baite fish for stripers in deep water in the Winter. Top water bite for stripers will usually start mid August through mid October.
Upper Lake Powell
Bullfrog and Hall’s Marina are the launching points on the Utah side. The geography changes dramatically as does the fishing as it all depends on the years snow melt. It is considered the incubator for replenishing the baite fish (threadfin/gizzard shad) that spreads out into the lower basin. Excellent fishing early summer to mid Fall.
Lower End Lake Powell
Lower lake launch is based out of Page, AZ. and we launch from Stateline Marina. This area runs to mile marker 50. This end runs all the species year round.
Equipment

We operate a variety of boats from River Jets, Blue Water and up to a 70’ Houseboat.
Tackle
Ambassador Guides can provide all your tackle needs except terminal tackle and baite. Flies and lures are on board. We only charge for them if lost or not reusable. If you have your own equipment and want to check on our recommendation, please contact us for any help we can give you.
What to Bring?
- Fall, early Spring and Winter you can jump from shorts to a fleece and back again.
- Sunglass (polarized)
- Suntan lotion
- Camera
- Slicker
- License (typically Arizona and Utah as we cross over on many trips. You can buy online or we recommend stopping
In at Stix Baite and Tackle on Lake Powell Boulevard and as Mike or Thea to assist you in your licensing.
Extended Trips
Due to the vastness of Lake Powell and the customers “wants” in fishing and viewing, our extended trips into the lower itineraries are very popular because it allows you to get away from it all and also fish a lot of “no pressure” water. Depending on fuels costs, a surcharge may apply. Call for details.
Our “young anglers”

We gladly take children fishing on our tours and find that age appropriate is 8 years or older. It becomes a long day for the “very young” and with hot or cold temperatures it typically works better for this age and up. Many families visit us yearly and we love having them on board and catching some great fish. If you have questions, please feel free to call or email us.
